The story dealt with claims that America's largest health care chain, Columbia/HCA, and its executives systematically defrauded Medicare of millions of dollars. While CBS was conducting the investigation, the FBI was doing its own, which led to company executives being indicted. The story found that hospital administrators were under tremendous pressure to produce profits of 15 to 20 percent in an industry where 5 percent was considered good. The CEO and other top managers eventually lost their jobs.
