Description

Since 1987, the reporter has followed the progress of that year's graduates of Belmont Elementary School in West Philadelphia. A Connecticut man had sought to change the reality of inner-city adolescence with huge infusions of encouragement and cash. While 16 of the 112 women have gone on to receive bachelor's degrees, at least 90 have become mothers.
