Please note: This workshop is for students only.

IRE is proud to partner with the Ida B. Wells Society for Investigative Reporting to host a day-and-a-half-long training workshop on Thursday, September 5 and Friday, September 6, 2024 in Atlanta. This event is specifically designed to support students of color and students of all backgrounds attending minority-serving institutions in the South, focusing on Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Students will learn a variety of investigative skills including techniques to conduct investigative interviews, how to access public information, and tapping into the power of data and AI. The event will be held at the Atlanta University Center.

This workshop is possible thanks to the Rick Gevers-Karen Burns Diversity Endowed Fund for College Journalists established by longtime TV news leader Rick Gevers and his wife, Karen Burns, in support of HBCUs and the benefit of student journalists of color.

The workshop will run from 2 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 5 (optional half-day of data training, RSVP required) and 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. on Friday, September 6.

Attendance for this event is $15. Students must be current IRE members to attend. A year-long student membership is $25.
