Welcome and overview of the conference
Welcome to the conference! IRE staff will highlight key sessions and events that you won't want to miss while in Atlanta. We'll also give you a brief rundown on some of the resources IRE has to offer.
Jaimi Dowdell is a data journalist for Reuters. Previously she was training director for Investigative Reporters and Editors. During that time, she trained thousands of journalists around the world in document- and data-driven reporting. In 2016, she received the Spotlight Fellowship for Investigative Reporting. MARK HORVIT is an associate professor at the University of Missouri School of Journalism, where he teaches investigative reporting and is director of the school’s State Government Reporting Program. He previously served as executive director of IRE and NICAR. Horvit worked as a reporter and editor for 20 years before joining IRE.
Megan Luther is an investigative producer with InvestigateTV, Gray Television's national investigative team. Previously, she was IRE's Senior Training Director and a data analyst for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Megan, mother of two, works remotely in South Dakota. @MeganLuther
Alex is an assistant professor at Syracuse University's Newhouse School, where he teaches data journalism. He's a former IRE training director, and he has previously worked as a reporter and editor at the Chicago Tribune, NerdWallet, The Chronicle of Higher Education and the Las Vegas Sun, where he was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 2011 and shared the Goldsmith Prize for investigative reporting. @alexrichards
