So now you’re a manager. Don’t worry, it’ll be awesome. In this session, we’ll talk with four team leaders about running teams that kick ass. We’ll talk about process, organization, and how we manage the team and their work — including what we do to manage *our* managers.

Speaker Bios

  • Becca Aaronson is the first-ever product manager at The Texas Tribune. She manages the Tribune’s website redesign, coordinates cross-departmental projects and conducts user research to improve reader experience. She previously worked on the Tribune’s Data Visuals team as a developer and project manager, contributing to several award-winning investigative projects. @becca_aa

  • Brian is the vice president of product and people at Spirited Media. Previously, he was the visuals editor at NPR, founded the news applications team at the Chicago Tribune, and was a happy intern at ProPublica. He was one of the first programmers to receive a Knight-funded scholarship to study journalism at Northwestern University. @brianboyer

  • As Chief Product Officer, Trei Brundrett leads the Vox Product team of designers, engineers and product managers that develops the Vox Media platform, Chorus, designed from the ground-up to deliver content and community for over 155 million users. Trei has been instrumental in growing the company from 100 sports blogs to a ground-breaking media organization in seven verticals - SB Nation, The Verge, Polygon, Vox, Curbed, Racked and Eater. @clockwerks

  • Lauren is the director of editorial products at Vox Media where she leads the team building storytelling tools for the company's seven sites. She spends a lot of time thinking about workflows, process, reusability, scale and creating newsroom cultures that are collaborative and innovative. Before joining Vox, she was the news applications editor at The Seattle Times.

  • Adam Schweigert is the Senior Director, Product and Technology with the Institute for Nonprofit News, a network of 100+ nonprofit news organizations. At INN he manages the news applications and technology team and is responsible for leading all of the organization’s tech and product-related efforts including developing editorial products, tools, training and community building. @aschweig
