Game of life: Data from day one to the day you die
Based on the family favorite board game, we'll take you through your life as you generate data. We'll talk about stories that have used various data sets and tips about getting the data. Special note: This session will feature festive props and costumes.
This session is good for: Anyone. Attendees will leave with story ideas and data sources.
Jaimi Dowdell is a data journalist for Reuters. Previously she was training director for Investigative Reporters and Editors. During that time, she trained thousands of journalists around the world in document- and data-driven reporting. In 2016, she received the Spotlight Fellowship for Investigative Reporting. Jennifer LaFleur is data editor at The Investigative Reporting Workshop and teaches at American University. She previously was a senior editor at Reveal/CIR, data editor at ProPublica, The Dallas Morning News, the San Jose Mercury News and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. She was NICAR's founding training director and has won awards for her coverage of disability, legal and open government issues.
