Storyboarding your investigation
Whether you use Post-Its, a white board, a spreadsheet or an old-fashioned yellow pad, keeping your head above a flood of information is crucial to your investigation’s success. This session will tap examples from the Boston Globe’s Spotlight team and the “In the Dark” podcast for techniques to safely navigate the key phases of organization in any medium: managing material; pruning and pivoting; and visualizing the story.

Patricia Wen took over as editor of the Boston Globe Spotlight Team two years ago. Her previous reporting work focused on social service, legal and medical issues. She has been a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize three times, including overseeing a Spotlight series on race issues in Boston that was named a 2018 finalist. A native of East Lansing, Michigan and a Harvard graduate, she previously worked at The Star-Ledger in Newark, NJ and The Advocate in Stamford, CT.
