In this session, we’ll briefly discuss the curriculum ProPublica has designed for high school students, and how you can help high schools implement rigorous investigative journalism instruction. We’ll also brainstorm other ways to be meaningfully helpful in immediately actionable ways in high schools across the country. Join us and make a plan to help students do this work! No experience of working with students is necessary.

Speaker Bios

  • Jessica Huseman is a reporter for ProPublica covering election integrity and voting rights. She is the lead reporter for Electionland, ProPublica’s collaborative initiative to cover problems at the polls. @JessicaHuseman 

  • Brett Murphy is a reporter on USA TODAY’s investigations desk. His most recent series on worker exploitation and lease-to-own contracts in the port trucking industry was Pulitzer finalist for national reporting. Brett previously covered courts, hurricanes and mass-shootings for the Naples Daily News and worked at Investigative Reporters and Editors as a Google NewsLab fellow.
