For many of us in this organization we have two families - our personal one and our IRE family. Today I was heartbroken to hear that we'd lost Kelly Guckian from our IRE family.
For those of you who didn't get the pleasure to meet Kelly, she was kind and sincere. She also loved data, had a passion for digging up information and never wanted to stop learning. She worked for years at the San Antonio Express-News and most recently joined the team at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution as a data analyst.
Kelly emailed me on May 23 when she told me about her illness, but she let me know that things were looking up. Although she was sad she'd miss IRE in San Antonio, she was eager to attend the coming CAR Conference in 2014.
She also mentioned that she loved IRE and was proud of all we were doing to serve journalism and the CAR community. She's contributed a lot to this community herself, so we want to honor that. In the spirit of Kelly's continued quest for learning, we've attached links to some of the tipsheets she's written for IRE conferences.
