Lawyers have continuing legal education. Doctors have continuing medical education. What do journalists have? IRE!
While the underlying ethic of investigative journalism does not change, technology and the media are changing faster than ever. So stick with us. We will help each other.
IRE is holding a membership drive throughout April, and everyone who either signs up or renews is eligible for prizes, including free hotel and registration for either the IRE or CAR conference.
We are asking you to take these simple steps:
1. Renew your membership (regardless of when it expires). Maybe consider re-upping for three years. It’s cheaper that way. You’ll be eligible for a prize and it helps IRE. But let’s face it. We hope you’re a lifer – someone who really believes in investigative reporting.
2. Encourage others. Forward this email to your former intern, your boss, a co-worker who wants help crafting a records request and the best investigative journalist you know. Send it to someone in TV, radio, a community newspaper and a wire service. IRE is powerful because of our broad base of members. Help make it more powerful.
3. Promote our membership drive through social media. Throughout April use the hashtag #joinIRE and share why you are an IRE member. Tweet this link to our membership page: https://www.ire.org/membership/membership-drive/ so people can sign up. The tweets will be compiled on IRE’s Web site.
Thanks for your help and let us know if you have any questions.
