Pulitzer winner Barlett dies at 88

Donald L. Barlett, a longtime member of IRE in the 1990s and early 2000s who spoke frequently at conferences and mentored many a young journalist, died Oct. 5 at his home in Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania. He was 88.

Barlett and reporting partner James B. Steele, also a veteran IRE member, were a powerhouse investigative team for more than 40 years, winning two Pulitzers for their work at The Inquirer and countless other awards, exposing corruption and fraud. They authored nine books. Barlett retired in 2013. Steele also retired, but remains an active IRE member and is serving on IRE's 50th Anniversary Task Force.
