Thousands of Vermonters choose to live in 133 state-regulated assisted living and residential care homes. Unlike nursing homes, which are heavily regulated by the federal government, these homes are subject to lax oversight and little public scrutiny. That’s even though many of them accept residents who qualify for nursing home-level care.
