Description

WCNC's groundbreaking investigation uncovered an alarming danger inside what are supposed to be among the most sterile environments around. Hospitals across the country have identified patients in their care sickened, and in some cases killed, by water-borne infections that originated in their water systems. Patient lawsuits, state environmental health reports and published research document nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) infections in at least a dozen hospitals across the country, including five in the Carolinas since 2013.
