We’ll show you how to find story sources through listening, with ideas borrowed from political campaigns. Two ProPublica Local Reporting Network projects are case studies: An investigation into Annapolis public housing with the Capital Gazette, and an upcoming investigation into sugar cane burning with the Palm Beach Post. We’ll demonstrate our Google tools workflow and share how we found and engaged with sources using flyers, letters, community meetups, mass doorknocking and calls to residents on voter rolls.
