Description

Native Americans are the nation’s poorest minority population. Yet they are victimized by white contractors who obtain federal minority-business contracts meant for Native Americans and other socially and economically disadvantaged minorities. A Los Angeles Times investigation found more than $800 million in federal minority-business contracts were awarded to companies whose owners claimed to be Native American – but were not. In all, companies obtained minority-business contracts for federal projects in 27 states even though the owners had no Native American ancestry.
