Description

"Solitary Voices,” grounded on internal documents obtained after a lengthy FOIA battle, reveals for the first time how U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement uses solitary confinement in its sprawling network of immigration detention centers.

Our reporters interviewed immigrants from around the world, many of whom have continued to suffer from the psychological effects of solitary confinement long after their release from detention. Their stories showed the human stakes of what our exclusive analysis of internal ICE records found: that solitary confinement in our nation’s’ immigration detention system is pervasive, punitive and often used in contradiction to ICE’s own policies.
