Description

After a review of city payroll records, the Post-Standard revealed that Syracuse firefighters often work sharply higher amounts of overtime shortly before they retire, a practice that enhances their pensions and, leads to unnecessary costs for city taxpayers. Of the 74 firefighters who retired from 1990 - 1994, 82 percent of them more than doubled their overtime earnings in their last full year on the job, compared to the previous year. (Feb. 9, 1995)
