Description

Despite its recent growth, Colorado remains a state where most people still earn their living through agriculture. As is the case in other agricultural state, farmers and ranchers receive generous subsidies through a patchwork of government land programs. Some of them make sense; many do not. In recent years the government has paid ranchers to improve Colorado Farms as grazing land, and then paid corporate farmers to tear it up for crops. (July 5, 1995)
