Description

Fortune's expose on the trash-hauling industry in New York City examined a problem everyone knew about -- but virtually no one was willing to write about in-depth. The article revealed much information that most people never knew, such as which major institutions and corporations are the customers of Mob-linked carters, how the city unwittingly helps Mob carters keep track on one another's customers, and how a Mob carter had been picking up the New York garbage of the U.S. Justice Department. Moreover, it revealed the hypocrisy of certain institutions and individuals who have voiced a desire to improve the city, even as they continue to do business with Mob carters. (January 15, 1996 & May 27, 1996)
