Description

CNN investigates a little-known health care fraud scheme that costs consumers billions of dollars. The story focuses on accountants who hire themselves out to hospitals, nursing homes and other health care providers, offering to go through old bills and discover "missed" charges, months or years later. These revenue recovery firms get paid a percentage of every "missed" charge they discover-- usually 50%-- creating a huge incentive to pad the bills. (Jan. 21, 1996)
