Description

The deaths of three Indiana children from shaken infant syndrome prompted the article. The series includes stories about the victims, examined the causes and ramifications of the syndrome and offered guidelines for prevention. The series shows that few people understand what shaking (even mild shaking) can do to a baby. The series also shows the difficulty in prosecuting these cases. Police and prosecutors speak to the difficulty of building cases against caregivers.
