Advanced cancer treatments are often labeled "experimental" by HMOs, which then refuse to pay for them. The treatments are sometimes a patient's only hope for survival. Doctors claim many of the treatments are proven to work against cancer, yet some HMOs continue to label them "experimental" so they won't have to pay.
