Description

This four day report looks at the danger that exists for mentally ill elderly patients at the assisted living centers of Long Island. The report unveils reports of ill patients wandering miles away from the facilities, missing doses of their medication, and being mistreated by assisted living staff. In some cases, the patients are violently attacked by other patients and members of the staff. "In New York state, a patchwork of regulation has left the rapidly growing assisted living industry poorly overseen." In some instances, some of the facilities looked at were never even licensed to deal with patients.
