Description

The Progressive investigates an explosion of uranium-hexafluoride, used to manufacture fuel for nuclear reactors, which resulted in one death and sent all the workers at a Kerr McGee facility and 60 residents to hospitals; finds the explosion could have been avoided; shows the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Kerr McGee ignored safety violations; the story also shows a lack of medical treatment and emergency evacuation plans at the plant, March 1986.
