Description
This project aims the tell the stories of hundreds of men, women and children who were placed in potters fields or remain in local morgues long after death. More than a year of work has gone into this project with a website updated to reflect each development and each person represented on a digital wall of names.
The Unclaimed tells the stories of more than 300 unclaimed souls. An investigation found murder victims, U.S. veterans and at least one Holocaust survivor went unclaimed. Coroners records often contained errors. Medical examiners often lack the resources to investigate and locate estranged family. In some cases, the remains of a person remained on a shelf for decades.
