Description

With more than 95,000 inmates languishing in Florida prisons, the nation’s third largest corrections system offers virtually no meaningful education, despite overwhelming evidence that it’s the strongest antidote to recidivism.
Readers learned that one in three state inmates reads below a sixth grade level, two in three lack a high school diploma and few are earning even basic education. During the past eight years, the number of inmates who completed GEDs in Florida prisons dropped by more than 60 percent.
