Description

Early in 2019, WNYC began conducting an investigation into lead-paint contamination in public elementary schools in New York City. When the Department of Education (DOE) did not respond to repeated request for information regarding its protocols, our reporter/editor worked with a lab to learn how to collect lead-dust samples in a manner consistent with EPA guidelines and then began contacting school principals and attending PTA meetings to gain access to schools for testing.
